Spin The Bottle is an anti-Tinder dating app that not only allows you to play virtual spin-the-bottle but aims to increase personalization and decrease the reliance on overly filtered photos.

The new dating app lets you meet real people from your area through a 30 second live video speed date.

The app uses people in your area to play the virtual game, spinning until the bottle stops on a person. Then you can enter a 30 second video date where you can chat with your match, choosing to send a virtual kiss later on. If two kisses pair then it’s a match.

How is it Different from Tinder?

Matthew Cohen, CEO and co-founder of Spin Labs, said, “With so many ‘swipe left, swipe right’ dating apps out there right now, we wanted a way to take people beyond the often misleading, perfectly manicured profile pictures and get them right to face time.”

“Looking into someone’s eyes and having a conversation, even a 30 second one, can be much more revealing than reading a list of interests and seeing a gallery of heavily edited, perfectly filtered selfies.”

The Online Dating in Figures

The online dating industry generates approximately $2 billion in revenue each year in the US and expanded at an annual rate of 5% between 2010 and 2015.

Tinder could be worth around $1.6 billion as a standalone business in the near future according to JMP Security (2015).

Video is Better

Matthew Cohen, CEO and co-founder of Spin Labs said that “video is better” when it comes to online dating.

“By facilitating live face-to-face meetings as part of our matchmaking process, our users can assess not only physical attraction but also personality and, most importantly, chemistry.”

The app also offers bonus features such as Flick, Freeze and Direct Hit.

Spin the Bottle is currently in private beta and set to be released on the App Store in the coming weeks.
