Kanye West Wants To Work With IKEA On A New Range Of Furniture - Dispatch Weekly

August 1, 2016 - Reading time: 3 minutes

Kanye West said to Annie Mac on BBC Radio One, “I have to work with IKEA- make furniture for interior design, for architecture.

Rapper and Swedish self-assembly units may seem an odd combination but the hit maker has had success in a range of retail projects, including the footwear range YEEZY Boost with Adidas in 2013.

YEEZY Boost 750 sells for $350 and the average resale price of the Triple Black 750s average for $1,484 USD.

He told the radio host that he wanted to create “a minimalist apartment inside of a college dorm where the TV goes on the side of the wall.”

He added, “Yo Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes.”

Kanye West visited IKEA’s head office in Almhult, south Sweden in March this year where he tweeted, “Super inspired by my visit to Ikea today, really amazing company…my mind is racing with the possibilities.”

He has previously collaborated with British fashion designer Katie Eary who made tableware and textiles for IKEA.

Affordable furniture allies with his need to make products more affordable. According to TMZ, a cameraman questioned the rapper about the expensive price tags of his YEEZY Season 1 and 2 range, to which West responded, “We’re gonna get them lower (by) next season.”

Kanye West has been accused of being egotistic, arrogant and vain and has courted controversy during his career.

Some of his crazy moments have included, taking Taylor Swift’s award for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. He ran onto the stage, took the mic out of her hands and said, “I’m sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”

He was also two hours late at the Tennessee music festival, where he arrived at 4:30 in the morning. Musician Robert Randolph was so angry that he led his fans to chant, “Kanye Sucks!”

Kanye responded on his blog, blaming the organisers, “Call me any name you want … BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL! […] WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH F___ING IDIOTS WHO DIDN’T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY.”

Despite his controversial image, or perhaps because of it, he continues to garner praise and dislike in equal measure, all the whilst having an avid fan base of 24.7m on Twitter.

IKEA has not confirmed a collaboration with West but with the rapper’s past retail success and social media following, suggests that has the clout to initiate any project he wishes.
